Founders know how to create ideas that solve problems.
But even the best ideas can fail miserably

Why do so many startups fail?

Thought leaders and top minds at universities, incubators and think tanks have done researches, written numerous case studies and published soooo many books on reasons why startups have failed. We read most of them and their learnings can be summarized in to 4 broad themes.

#
1
Issues Within
the Startup
Where the team or the founders weren’t the ideal mix to guide the startup to success.
#
2
Issues Outside
the Startup Control
Where the capital ran out or the external environment wasn’t conducive.
#
3
Issues Within
the Product
The product was of poor quality or didn’t address the customers needs.
#
4
Issues Beyond
the Product
The plan for the product adoption wasn’t thought out and executed with the right approach.
As per research, more than 50% of startups attributed issues
Beyond the Product
as the top reasons for their failure.
So, what are the issues Beyond the Product?

Most founders are engineers or product experts who have strong technical expertise to build products and solutions based on a strong idea. Most feel that if they build a strong product, customers will come running to buy it. This isn’t true in most cases. The fact is that the complete thinking approach or the Go To Market strategy isn't done beyond the product.

Investors and Founders Need to Ask the Right Questions Beyond the Product Development
Validating Customer Needs
Who is the ideal customer, how much is known about the customer needs, what is currently being used, what's the problem and the pain points, how does the customer find, buy, use and dispose the product?
Checking for Market Fit
What are the different, feasible market segment? What's the competition, what's our differentiation, what's the positioning hence space we want to occupy in the customers mind, what are similar segments to my ideal customer?
What's the Plan on Driving adoption
Where can I engage with my customer, what sort of message is she used to seeing, how do I know which channel best suits my needs?
Who we are at ReadySet-Grow &
why we care for all startups to succeed
As was the case with so many people during the pandemic we wanted to help the broader community get back on its feet, help people get jobs and businesses to restart. Help things go back to normal, help them smile again.

And so whatever chance we got we would sit down with a friend or friend's friend or an old office colleague or her relative .. literally anyone who would ask for help with their venture or business or an idea they had been noodling on. We would guide them with the structured thinking we had acquired through out our career on how to identify their target, what might be the main issues (not just the business symptoms they were experiencing) and how to devise strategies so they can rebuild and grow their business.

It was during these discussions and referrals and chance meetings that we came across so many intelligent people with great ideas working as part of startups. Talking to these founders, whose enthusiasm was soooo infectious, we realized the multiplier effect startups have to the economy and in creating jobs. We found our calling!

Quitting the fortune 500 corporate job after that was the easier part ... we had found purpose.
